Our friend Meredith is the sous-chef at Les Ormes, a Michelin one-star (read: damn good) French restaurant here in Paris. (It's also where our Sunday-evening wine tasting group meets.) She offered to let Carter come in and cook with her and Chef Stéphane Molé as a Christmas present, so on January 2nd we picked up some superb viennoiserie (pastries) as a treat and headed over toward Les Invalides. We tried to pry Carter our of the kitchen at 2, then at 3, then he finally finished work at 4, totally babbling and glowing about the experience. He's already planning (and invited) to go back during the February school holidays, on one of the days we're not in Barcelona, of course (see previous note).

Hi Amy! (from wine group?) Yes, Carter was totally excited before, thrilled during, and glowing after. When we came back for him at 3, he said "but we're still finishing service!" So neat ...

I went to Les Ormes for New Years Lunch and it was fantastic. I can only imagine what an experience it must be to be in the kitchen during service!
